Hannah Lawson joined John McAslan + Partners in 2001, and was appointed as a director in 2005. She is co-leader of JMP’s Culture and Education Unit, with Murray Smith. The Unit concentrates on designing architecture for public sector schemes, and typically works with end-user clients, where highly detailed  consultation is an essential part of the creative process. Hannah has a particular interest in sustainability, and environmentally responsive design. One recent exemplar project led by her was the design of the forthcoming United World College in the remote highlands of Kenya, an innovative series of low-impact buildings. Hannah was also project director for the Ailsa Craig Visitor Centre in Scotland, whose form mimics the coastal dunescape. Her design leadership of JMP’s proposed British pavilion for the 2010 Shanghai Expo was even more adventurous, and based on an ascending Ribbon of Culture narrative.
