James Dixon joined JMP in 2006, having gained a BSc (Hons) Dip Arch in architectural design at Robert Gordon University, followed by a British Academy scholarship to study Medieval and Ottoman Architecture in Jerusalem. His design development and project-leading roles at JMP have increased rapidly, via some of the more overtly innovative educational and cultural projects. These have included a new secondary school for 1600 pupils at Barnsley, an Academy near Birmingham for the Royal Society of Arts, and the Ailsa Craig Centre at Girvan on the west coast of Scotland. These schemes have pioneered new types of form, programming, and mixed-use functionality. James’ involvement in the Ailsa Craig project helped to create a remarkable building design exemplifying low environmental impacts. James was promoted to Associate in March 2008. He also leads the practice’s sustainability working group.
