Matthew Burl
Matthew Burl joined John McAslan + Partners in 2000 to run the Manchester studio with Tony Skipper. Matthew played a key role as Project Leader for the new Law Faculty at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), and went on to lead the £55m University Place scheme for the University of Manchester, a mixed-use educational project including conference, catering, academic and student accommodation.
Matthew has led and contributed to schemes across urban design, campus masterplanning, cultural, educational and residential sectors in the north west. Strategic estates planning is a specialism that Matthew has developed through a series of masterplans for MMU’s seven campuses, a masterplan for the University of Hull and its Scarborough campus as well as Manchester Science Park. He currently leads two school projects as part of the Blackburn with Darwen BSF programme as well as a multi-phased mixed-use student accommodation scheme in Leeds that will deliver over 1,000 bedrooms for students and key workers of the main institutions of Leeds.
