The Burgh Hall was bought by the McAslan Family Trust in 2008 with the aim of returning the building to local community use as a multi-functional arts facility. The building opened in 1874 and was the focus of public life in Dunoon until the 1960s, being for a time, the only theatre in Dunoon.
Since 1993, when the Argyll and Bute Council sold the building, it has been falling into a state of disrepair. JMP’s approach to the refurbishment and renovation of the building is to adopt a phased strategy that will see sections of the building brought back into use in stages.
The main hall on the first floor of the building will be a venue for a range of activities and performances including concerts, theatrical productions, and dance classes, with accommodation on the ground floor offering space for exhibitions, club meetings, a bookshop, and café.
