The new Thomas Tallis School on Kidbrooke Park Road, south-east London, currently on site, has been designed by JMP. The buildings are arranged around, and link to a central concourse space which is at the heart of the scheme and is the focus for student life. Landscaped space between the teaching blocks creates informal teaching space and connects visually and physically with the concourse.
The arrangement of the buildings and landscape relate to the curve of Kidbrooke Park Road, reinforcing the existing urban fabric, creating an exciting environment in which to learn.
The landscape has been used as an extension of the educational programme. Set within a rolling pastoral landscape are outdoor classrooms, footpaths, sports pitches, trim trails, and a native species arboretum. Much consideration has been given to rainwater harvesting, with a stormwater management canal used as a water feature in front of the building.
