University of Manchester

The University of Manchester wanted to re-urbanise the university and create a series of linked public spaces, streets and landscaped squares. This complex piece of urban design and design coordination has provided the client with a revitalised campus that links physically, socially, and visually into the city of Manchester itself.

We retained and reshaped open spaces and mature trees into a safe and consistent landscape, unifying the various faculty buildings. We created significant new open spaces to extend the public realm into the site and create new cycle and pedestrian movement routes across the campus. These links draw in the adjacent communities, making the campus accessible and accommodating for all.

All technical and design coordination including planning applications, tender documentation, production drawings, and site supervision for the landscape works, was undertaken by JMP. These works are part of a series of projects undertaken for the University of Manchester, including a masterplan, student accommodation and a large teaching facility for health professionals.
